Awotwi Pratt, the Presiding Bishop, mentioned that the choice of the Conference theme was intended to draw our attention to why Methodism arose, so that we are reminded of our calling to spread scriptural holiness throughout the land. He said that his intention was to highlight some aspects of the ethos of the Methodist Church so that we do not forget our heritage.…………. See Attachment for details

DAILY RECORD FOR SATURDAY AUGUST 20, 2016

REPRESENTATIVE SESSION

Conference assembled at 8.00 am with the Presiding Bishop, Most Rev. Titus K. Awotwi Pratt in the chair.

Devotions

  1. Devotions were led by Bro. Kwame Agyepong Boafo, the Lay President. Conference sang MHB 338, and Bro. Boafo led Conference in prayer. Sis. Magdalene Harley read the Scriptures from Matthew 28: 16-20 and Acts 1:8 and Conference sang CH 59 (MHB 589). Bro Boafo spoke on the theme, “Go and make disciples of all Nations”. He referred to Acts 1:8 and Mark 16:15 and said that it is the same command found in these passages. He said his interest was in the command, “Go therefore and make disciples”. Even though the text is said to be a commission, he sees it as a command. He referred to Acts 1:8 emphasising on the word “Shall” be witnesses. He said the word is an imperative. John Wesley had said that we have nothing to do but to save souls. We are aware of that but it was thought that what was left was the strategy. He made reference to strategies such as “5 in ’95”, “3 in 2013” and “Vision 2020” and said what we needed to do was to equip each member to be involved. Bro. Boafo said we needed to look for qualitative and not just numerical growth. He said since Dunwell’s time, Methodists have been vigorously pursuing the Great Commission but we still lagged behind some of the new churches. He said it was either we were not teaching our people so they were moved by every wind of doctrine or we had not been equipped with the power of the Holy Spirit. We needed to help our people to live a holy life and be empowered by the Holy Spirit .…………. See Attachment for details
