The former second lady of the Republic of Ghana, Her Excellency Mrs. Matilda Amissah-Arthur yesterday 14th June 2017, donated books to the St. Peter Methodist Library. The beautiful occasion was witnessed by church leaders, community leaders and some school children. It was very heart warming. She was accompanied by her husband, the former Vice President, His Excellency Paa Kwasi Ammisah-Arthur. Present were the past Presiding Bishop of the Methodist Church Ghana, Most Rev. Dr. Robert Aboagye-Mensah, the resident Minister,Very Rev. Emmanuel B. Asenso who is also the Director of Communications and Publications of the Methodist Church Ghana and other stewards and church leaders.
In her presentation, she urged parents and the community to support children especially in reading. According to her, reading gives the children exposure and the confidence to express themselves. The former Vice vice president added that, reading is only good but broadens the mind. He emphasized that, the children are our future as a Nation and we must educate them properly.
The interesting aspect of the donation was, the Library is also opened to the community. She pledged to extend her support and kind gesture to other communities and departments of the church. As a former Librarian of the University of Ghana, she stressed the need for parents and the church to encourage the children to read.
